Trolley Dash for Lincoln Foodbank
Ready, steady - SHOP! Teams from construction company R G Carter took part in a simultaneous, festive charity trolley dash in Tesco stores across the east of England in support of local food banks.
That included employees from the firm’s Lincoln office who raced their trolleys around Tesco’s Canwick Road store dressed in festive Santa and elf hats, T-shirts and tinsel.
The teams dashed around each Tesco store to collect £500 worth of items from a shopping list supplied by each local foodbank.
Collectively the teams gathered and donated nearly one tonne of goods, with the fastest team completing the challenge in just 14 minutes and 43 seconds!
A representative from the Acts Trust in Lincoln acted as the adjudicator, advising on the most economical and practical items needed to help communities this Christmas.
After totting up the totals at the till, two full trolley loads of items, including practical daily staples and seasonal treats, were loaded into the foodbank vehicles, ready for volunteers to circulate to local families and individuals most in need.
Lincoln Foodbank said; “This can be a very expensive time of year for many people in the UK, and donations like these given by R G Carter can make a huge difference to families and individuals.
“This was the first time we have ever been involved in a trolley dash and we were delighted with the support. We will certainly put the items to good use.”
Ian Gifford, MD at R G Carter Construction, said:
“It is a privilege to help support and raise awareness for our local food banks at this challenging time. The festive season is the perfect opportunity for us to involve the amazing volunteers and our employees in some festive fun, all for a great cause.”
