The GLLEP, the Lincoln Engineering Breakfast, and the EBP launched a range of educational resources for schools to showcase Lincolnshire's rich Engineering and Manufacturing industry

Historically, the Lincoln Engineering Breakfast (a partnership of employers leading the way in Lincolnshire Engineering) have come together to hold the SPARK Festival, usually held at Lincoln Cathedral and designed to inspire young people, teachers and parents/carers about the exciting world of Engineering.

However, due to COVID-19, it has not been possible to hold the event and therefore, partners have come together to provide high quality information to be delivered to young people in schools from September 2021.

The SPARK Education Pack is an exciting new edition to the format of the SPARK festival and will provide schools across the county with an opportunity to bring Engineering and Manufacturing industries in Greater Lincolnshire to life within the classroom.

The SPARK Education Resource Pack is designed to support teachers to deliver immersive and engaging lessons that explore the past, present and future of engineering. Each carefully crafted lesson links directly to the National Curriculum objectives for each Key Stage and supports skills development, qualities and knowledge of careers and jobs in Greater Lincolnshire.

With particular support from the Greater Lincolnshire Manufacturing Board and Lincolnshire County Council, many employers from the sector have shaped the resources and provided information that will be delivered during the lessons.

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, it has not been possible for young people, parents/carers and teachers to come together with businesses and employers in order to share an insight into the world of work in Greater Lincolnshire. There is a rich heritage of Engineering and Manufacturing in the area: it is important for young people to understand all of the opportunities available to them on their doorstep, and demonstrate how the school curriculum can support skills, qualities and knowledge of careers and jobs in Greater Lincolnshire.

Through sharing this resource pack, the partners involved hope to educate young people about the many jobs and careers available to them in Greater Lincolnshire, raising aspirations as well as challenging perceptions about opportunities available. From studying the Lincoln Eastern Bypass, to learning more about the Agricultural and Industrial Revolution in Greater Lincolnshire, it is hoped that young people are inspired by Greater Lincolnshire's Engineering and Manufacturing industry, and excited to play an important part in shaping the jobs and careers of the future.
