CorrBoard UK, the independent sheet-feeding specialist based in Scunthorpe, is set to join a national project run by the Greater Lincolnshire LEP.

The Careers and Enterprise Company’s Teacher Encounters programme will give education-based professionals access to businesses throughout the country.

Developed nationally to help relate the curriculum to the real-life context of the world of work, the project has a target to provide 1,000 education professionals with learned knowledge that they can take back to the classroom.

The Greater Lincolnshire and Rutland Teacher Encounters programme will work with 70 local teachers during June and July, visiting companies from a range of industries to open the discussion about what pathways and opportunities exist for young people today.

Managing Director of CorrBoard UK, Rob Burgin, comments: “There is no doubt that the way business recruit has changed, as has what requirements prospective candidates must have. Bridging the gap between education and employment is crucial to us all attracting the talent we need.

“This project is a proactive step to change and is certainly an approach that we endorse at CorrBoard. We very much appreciate the benefits that come from working more collaboratively with the local education and business community.”

Alex Nightingale, Operational Hub Lead for Teachers Encounters, comments: “Thanks to CorrBoard for agreeing to join the Greater Lincolnshire and Rutland Teacher Encounters programme. This is a really exciting project and we have seen how it has benefitted both education providers and businesses in other areas.

“We really do need to work more collaboratively if we are to manage the disconnect between the curriculum and the world of work. It’s so important that we provide teachers with the insight and information that they need to be able to pass this back to students when they are considering what options they have.”

Through participating in the Teacher Encounters programme CorrBoard hopes to support young people from the local community, raise awareness of the variety of pathways into work, including its successful apprenticeship scheme, develop relationships and build a dialogue with education providers from the region, and broaden the work-based understanding for those that attend.

CorrBoard is a privately owned, independent sheet feeder. The business was founded in 2014 and manufactures corrugated cardboard from a purpose-built facility in Scunthorpe.
