Lincolnshire has one of the lowest tree cover rates in the UK at just under 4% - compared to a national tree coverage rate of 13%

To address this and to help meet the government’s target for the UK to be “net zero carbon” by 2050, Lincolnshire County Council aim to plant over 750,000 trees, one for every county resident, and the sustainability team at the County Council are asking for your help.

Following on from their recent successful Treescapes Project, which saw over 15,000 trees planted in partnership with the Forestry Commission; they are now asking communities with suitable spaces to get in touch.

Ellen Massey, Sustainability Officer at Lincolnshire County Council said:

“We are looking for suggestions for new areas for tree planting and community woodlands in Lincolnshire. They could be from landowners, businesses or parish councils and ideally the sites would be of sufficient size to take at least 300 trees.”

Dan Clayton, Sustainability Manager at Lincolnshire County Council further added:

“We made a good start in 2021, when we planted over 30,000 trees. We are now looking for new sites where we can make sure that we plant the right tree in the right place.”

The County Council will work with any interested parties to develop a project, look at due diligence issues and identify funding sources.

Communities and individuals with smaller sites can still get involved by completing their tree planting survey which will be counted towards the countywide tree planting target. You can view a map of all registered tree planting here.

Anyone with a suitable site should contact the sustainability team at sustainability@lincolnshire.gov.uk and more information about the Green Masterplan can be found here.
