Spotlight on CorrBoard: Changing the Narrative on ‘Waste’
In pursuit of a circular economy, which would see a closed-loop manufacturing system from seed to shelf and back again, we know that we need to collaborate with other like-minded organisations.
Just one of those companies is OMNI-PAC GROUP UK.
OMNI-PAC delivers smarter, greener protective packaging. As the UK’s leading manufacturer of moulded fibre packaging products, it provides customers with an alternative to plastic packaging.
What’s more, it relies on businesses including CorrBoard to supply recycled paper and cardboard that is used as raw material during its manufacturing process.
Working together
With a shared approach to delivering a truly circular economy, CorrBoard redirects its ‘waste’ to OMNI-PAC. The company uses the recycled paper and cardboard to produce the moulded fibre packaging, which is manufactured at its facility in North Lincolnshire.
Using fully biodegradable, recyclable and compostable material means that OMNI-PAC can reduce the impact it has on the environment.
Using a wet pressing technology, it combines cardboard with water to create a slurry, which is then formed into the shape of the packaging the client requires. Through using the surplus of cardboard, the company can give this material a new purpose.
A more positive impact
Working together, CorrBoard and OMNI-PAC have redirected tons of material back into the manufacturing process, showing what can be achieved when businesses think more innovatively.
In fact, OMNI-PAC has calculated that just one ton of recycled paper saves 17 trees, 380 gallons of oil, 3 square yards of landfill, 4,000 KWs energy and 7,000 gallons of H20.
Managing Director of OMNI-PAC James Gallacher said: “Through our relationships with CorrBoard, we have been able to significantly reduce the impact we have on the environment. It is a primary focus for us to continue to find new and innovative ways to reduce our impact and become even more sustainable.
“We believe that working more sustainably should be a priority for every business. After all, when we all work together, we can all have a more positive impact for our business, community and the environment.”
Sharing best practice
Through the sharing of best practice, CorrBoard hopes that other local organisations will consider changing their processes to reduce the impact that they have on the environment.
Managing Director of CorrBoard Rob Burgin said: “We are very proud of the work that we do with OMNI-PAC GROUP.
“As we continue to work on our own sustainability journey, it’s great to share the positive news and updates from partners. The truth is that we all need to collaborate more to learn from each other and to implement change where we can.
“It’s not always going to be easy, but we know that it is the right thing to do. At CorrBoard we are championing the circular economy and are encouraging businesses of all sizes to adapt and to make sustainability a priority.
“We hope that through sharing the partnership we have with OMNI-PAC, we can prove that it is possible to have shared objectives that benefit more than just the bottom line.”
