Site History
The Easton site has a long history of food production and cold logistics. Christian Salvesen purchased the site in 1967, developing large-scale cold storage and food processing operations. Over the decades it became a vital part of the UK’s frozen food supply chain. After several ownership changes including Norbert Dentressangle and later XPO Logistics, the site faced challenges.

However, in 2011, Sadel Group secured the freehold, recognising its strategic importance to food production and logistics. Magnavale, which is wholly owned by Sadel Group and is one of the UK’s leading cold storage providers, took over the cold storage and packing elements of the site in 2022.

With an investment of ~£7m into the existing facilities the regeneration of the site began.

Development of the New Cold Store
Planning for a new cold store facility was granted in 2018, and construction began in 2022. Backed by over £140m of investment, Magnavale Easton has now delivered the UK’s largest single cold store, officially opened in March 2025.

The state-of-the-art, fully automated high-bay warehouse provides 101,000 frozen pallet positions, standing 47.5 metres tall, equipped with cranes, conveyors, and advanced fire prevention systems.

Future Plans
Magnavale Easton is more than a warehouse, it is being developed into a Food Hub that integrates production, processing, storage, and distribution while delivering scaled solutions for water, energy, waste and shared infrastructure.

Phase III has already been granted planning permission and includes two major initiatives:

  • A new food production factory, enabling food manufacturing alongside storage and logistics.
  • An anaerobic digester (biodigester), which will transform agricultural waste into renewable energy and high-grade fertiliser, supporting a circular economy and reducing reliance on volatile energy markets.

These future developments will make Easton a model for sustainable, integrated food infrastructure, ensuring resilience in the UK’s food supply chain and supporting local agriculture.
